- I Chron. 21:2, 3 (to 2nd ?), 4, 5 (to 1st .), 7 (to ;), 8 (to :), 9, 10, 13
2And David said to Joab and to the rulers of the people, Go, number Israel from Beer–sheba even to Dan; and bring the number of them to me, that I may know it.
3And Joab answered, The Lord make his people an hundred times so many more as they be: but, my lord the king, are they not all my lord’s servants? why then doth my lord require this thing?
... 4Nevertheless the king’s word prevailed against Joab. Wherefore Joab departed, and went throughout all Israel, and came to Jerusalem.
5¶ And Joab gave the sum of the number of the people unto David.
7And God was displeased with this thing;
... 8And David said unto God, I have sinned greatly, because I have done this thing:
9¶ And the Lord spake unto Gad, David’s seer, saying,
10Go and tell David, saying, Thus saith the Lord, I offer thee three things: choose thee one of them, that I may do it unto thee.
... 13And David said unto Gad, I am in a great strait: let me fall now into the hand of the Lord; for very great are his mercies: but let me not fall into the hand of man.
- Judg. 9:8-13
8The trees went forth on a time to anoint a king over them; and they said unto the olive tree, Reign thou over us.
9But the olive tree said unto them, Should I leave my fatness, wherewith by me they honour God and man, and go to be promoted over the trees?
10And the trees said to the fig tree, Come thou, and reign over us.
11But the fig tree said unto them, Should I forsake my sweetness, and my good fruit, and go to be promoted over the trees?
12Then said the trees unto the vine, Come thou, and reign over us.
13And the vine said unto them, Should I leave my wine, which cheereth God and man, and go to be promoted over the trees?
- Prov. 3:5, 6, 10 (to ,), 21 keep, 23
5¶ Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
6In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
10So shall thy barns be filled with plenty,
keep sound wisdom and discretion:
... 23Then shalt thou walk in thy way safely, and thy foot shall not stumble.
- Matt. 12:9-13 when
when he was departed thence, he went into their synagogue:
10¶ And, behold, there was a man which had his hand withered. And they asked him, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath days? that they might accuse him.
11And he said unto them, What man shall there be among you, that shall have one sheep, and if it fall into a pit on the sabbath day, will he not lay hold on it, and lift it out?
12How much then is a man better than a sheep? Wherefore it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days.
13Then saith he to the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it forth; and it was restored whole, like as the other.
- Ps. 25:4, 5
4Shew me thy ways, O Lord; teach me thy paths.
5Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day.
- Acts 1:13 (to 2nd ,), 23-25 (to 2nd ,), 26
13And when they were come in, they went up into an upper room,
23And they appointed two, Joseph called Barsabas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias.
24And they prayed, and said, Thou, Lord, which knowest the hearts of all men, shew whether of these two thou hast chosen,
25That he may take part of this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas by transgression fell,
... 26And they gave forth their lots; and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.
- Acts 2:1, 2, 4, 6, 14 (to 4th ,), 16 this, 17 (to 1st :)
1And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
2And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
... 4And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
... 6Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language.
14¶ But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them,
... this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;
17And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh:
- James 1:4 let, 5, 16, 17
let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.
5If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
... 16Do not err, my beloved brethren.
17Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
- I Pet. 4:10, 11
10As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.
11If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

The divine Mind that made man 24maintains His own image and likeness. The human mind is opposed to God and must be put off, as St. Paul declares. All that really exists is the divine Mind and 27its idea, and in this Mind the entire being is found har-monious and eternal. The straight and narrow way is to see and acknowledge this fact, yield to this power, and 30follow the leadings of truth.

Mind, supreme over all its formations and governing 6them all, is the central sun of its own systems of ideas, Allness of Truththe life and light of all its own vast creation; and man is tributary to divine Mind.
The world would collapse without Mind, without the in-telligence which holds the winds in its grasp.

If spiritual sense always guided Emotional utterancesmen, there would grow out of ecstatic mo-ments a higher experience and a better life 21with more devout self-abnegation and purity. ... The “di-24vine ear” is not an auditory nerve. It is the all-hearing and all-knowing Mind, to whom each need of man is always known and by whom it will be supplied.
- SH 125:12-17
As human thought changes from one stage to an-other of conscious pain and painlessness, sorrow and joy, — from fear to hope and from faith to understand-15ing, — the visible manifestation will at last be man gov-erned by Soul, not by material sense. Reflecting God’s government, man is self-governed.

Whatever is governed by God, is never for an instant deprived of the light and might of intelligence and Life.
15 We are sometimes led to believe that darkness is as real as light; but Science affirms darkness to be only a mortal Light and darknesssense of the absence of light, at the coming of 18which darkness loses the appearance of reality.
With its divine proof, Science reverses the evidence of material sense. ... Mortal man is the antipode of immortal man in origin, in existence, and in his relation to God.

In the Science of Mind, you will soon ascertain 496 496:1that error cannot destroy error. You will also learn that in Science there is no transfer of evil suggestions 3from one mortal to another, for there is but one Mind, and this ever-present omnipotent Mind is reflected by man and governs the entire universe.

In this Science, we dis-6cover man in the image and likeness of God. We see that man has never lost his spiritual estate and his eternal harmony.

Man is tributary to God, Spirit, and to nothing 3else. God’s being is infinity, freedom, harmony, and boundless bliss. “Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.” Like the archpriests of yore, man is 6free “to enter into the holiest,” — the realm of God.
Material sense never helps mortals to understand Spirit, God.
