The Bible
  1. Rom. 8:6 2nd to

to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

  2. Ps. 36:5-7, 9

5Thy mercy, O Lord, is in the heavens; and thy faithfulness reacheth unto the clouds.

6Thy righteousness is like the great mountains; thy judgments are a great deep: O Lord, thou preservest man and beast.

7How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God! therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings.

... 9For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light.

  3. Eccl. 1:7, 8 the, 9

7All the rivers run into the sea; yet the sea is not full; unto the place from whence the rivers come, thither they return again.

... the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing.

9The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.

  4. Jer. 1:4-7 the, 8 for

the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,

5Before I formed thee in the belly, I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.

6Then said I, Ah, Lord God! behold, I cannot speak: for I am a child.

7But the Lord said unto me, Say not, I am a child: for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak.

for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the Lord.

  5. I John 4:1 (to :), 4 greater, 6 Hereby, 7, 13

1Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God:

... greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

... Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.

7Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.

... 13Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit.

  6. Matt. 5:1-3, 6, 8

1And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him:

2And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,

3Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

... 6Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

... 8Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.

  7. Matt. 6:6 when, 19, 22

when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

19Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:

... 22The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.

  8. Luke 8:43-48

43And a woman having an issue of blood twelve years, which had spent all her living upon physicians, neither could be healed of any,

44Came behind him, and touched the border of his garment: and immediately her issue of blood stanched.

45And Jesus said, Who touched me? When all denied, Peter and they that were with him said, Master, the multitude throng thee and press thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?

46And Jesus said, Somebody hath touched me: for I perceive that virtue is gone out of me.

47And when the woman saw that she was not hid, she came trembling, and falling down before him, she declared unto him before all the people for what cause she had touched him, and how she was healed immediately.

48And he said unto her, Daughter, be of good comfort: thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace.

  9. Luke 18:35-43

35And it came to pass, that as he was come nigh unto Jericho, a certain blind man sat by the way side begging:

36And hearing the multitude pass by, he asked what it meant.

37And they told him, that Jesus of Nazareth passeth by.

38And he cried, saying, Jesus, thou son of David, have mercy on me.

39And they which went before rebuked him, that he should hold his peace: but he cried so much the more, Thou son of David, have mercy on me.

40And Jesus stood, and commanded him to be brought unto him: and when he was come near, he asked him,

41Saying, What wilt thou that I shall do unto thee? And he said, Lord, that I may receive my sight.

42And Jesus said unto him, Receive thy sight: thy faith hath saved thee.

43And immediately he received his sight, and followed him, glorifying God: and all the people, when they saw it, gave praise unto God.

  10. Gal. 5:1, 5, 7, 9, 16, 17 (to 2nd :), 18, 25

1Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.

... 5For we through the Spirit wait for the hope of righteousness by faith.

... 7Ye did run well; who did hinder you that ye should not obey the truth?

... 9A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump.

... 16This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.

17For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other:

... 18But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.

... 25If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures
by Mary Baker Eddy

  1. SH 95:5-16, 28-32

Paul 6said, “To be spiritually minded is life.” We approach God, or Life, in proportion to our spirituality, our fidel-ity to Truth and Love; and in that ratio we know all 9human need and are able to discern the thought of the sick and the sinning for the purpose of healing them. Error of any kind cannot hide from the law of God.

12    Whoever reaches this point of moral culture and good-ness cannot injure others, and must do them good. The greater or lesser ability of a Christian Scientist to discern 15thought scientifically, depends upon his genuine spirit-uality.

Lulled by stupefying illusions, the world is asleep in the cradle of infancy, dreaming away the hours. 30Spiritual awakeningMaterial sense does not unfold the facts of existence; but spiritual sense lifts human consciousness into eternal Truth.

  2. SH 572:8

In Science we are chil-9dren of God; but whatever is of material sense, or mor-tal, belongs not to His children, for materiality is the inverted image of spirituality.

  3. SH 86:1-8

Jesus once asked, “Who touched me?” Supposing this inquiry to be occasioned by physical contact alone, 3Mental contacthis disciples answered, “The multitude throng thee.” Jesus knew, as others did not, that it was not matter, but mortal mind, whose touch called 6for aid. Repeating his inquiry, he was answered by the faith of a sick woman. His quick apprehension of this mental call illustrated his spirituality.

  4. SH 343:14-24

Jesus strips all disguise from error, when his teachings 15are fully understood. By parable and argument he ex-Proof from miraclesplains the impossibility of good producing evil; and he also scientifically demonstrates this great 18fact, proving by what are wrongly called miracles, that sin, sickness, and death are beliefs — illusive errors — which he could and did destroy.

21    It would sometimes seem as if truth were rejected be-cause meekness and spirituality are the conditions of its acceptance, while Christendom generally demands so 24much less.

  5. SH 270:31-5

The life of Christ Jesus was not miraculous, but it was indigenous to his spirituality, — the good soil wherein the 271 271:1seed of Truth springs up and bears much fruit. Christ’s Christianity is the chain of scientific being reappearing 3in all ages, maintaining its obvious correspondence with the Scriptures and uniting all periods in the design of God.

  6. SH 352:8

To Jesus, not 9materiality, but spirituality, was the reality of man’s ex-istence, while to the rabbis the spiritual was the intangi-ble and uncertain, if not the unreal.

  7. SH 277:7 As

As God Himself is good and is Spirit, goodness and spirituality must be im-9mortal. Their opposites, evil and matter, are mortal error, and error has no creator. If goodness and spirit-uality are real, evil and materiality are unreal and can-12not be the outcome of an infinite God, good.

  8. SH 201:7

We cannot build safely on false foundations. Truth makes a new creature, in whom old things pass away 9and “all things are become new.” Passions, selfishness, false appetites, hatred, fear, all sensuality, yield to spirit-uality, and the superabundance of being is on the side 12of God, good.

  9. SH 207:30

Spiritual facts are not inverted; the opposite discord, which bears no resemblance to spirituality, is not real. The only evidence of this inversion is obtained from 208 208:1suppositional error, which affords no proof of God, Spirit, or of the spiritual creation. Material sense de-3fines all things materially, and has a finite sense of the infinite.

  10. SH 216:9-14

Spirituality lays open siege to materialism. On which side are we fighting?

The understanding that the Ego is Mind, and that 12there is but one Mind or intelligence, begins at once to Servants and mastersdestroy the errors of mortal sense and to supply the truth of immortal sense.

  11. SH 242:15-21 In, 25-26

In pa -tient obedience to a patient God, let us labor to dis-solve with the universal solvent of Love the adamant 18of error, — self-will, self-justification, and self-love, — which wars against spirituality and is the law of sin and death.

21    The vesture of Life is Truth. The divine Science of man is woven into one web of consistency without seam or rent.

  12. SH 329:26 If

If 27men understood their real spiritual source to be all bless-edness, they would struggle for recourse to the spiritual and be at peace; but the deeper the error into which mor-30tal mind is plunged, the more intense the opposition to spirituality, till error yields to Truth.

  13. SH 99:23

The calm, strong currents of true spirituality, the 24manifestations of which are health, purity, and self-immolation, must deepen human experience, until the beliefs of material existence are seen to be a bald imposi-27tion, and sin, disease, and death give everlasting place to the scientific demonstration of divine Spirit and to God’s spiritual, perfect man.

  14. SH 265:5-15

Mortals must gravitate Godward, 6their affections and aims grow spiritual, — they must near the broader interpretations of being, and gain some proper sense of the infinite, — in order that sin and mortality 9may be put off.

This scientific sense of being, forsaking matter for Spirit, by no means suggests man’s absorption into Deity 12 and the loss of his identity, but confers upon man en-larged individuality, a wider sphere of thought and action, a more expansive love, a higher and more permanent 15peace.

  15. SH 471:13-20

The facts of divine Science should be admitted, — although the evidence as to these facts is not supported 15by evil, by matter, or by material sense, — because the evidence that God and man coexist is fully sustained by spiritual sense. Man is, and forever has been, God’s re-18flection. God is infinite, therefore ever present, and there is no other power nor presence. Hence the spirit-uality of the universe is the only fact of creation.
