The Bible
  1. Deut. 30:1-3, 5, 8, 9, 16

1And it shall come to pass, when all these things are come upon thee, the blessing and the curse, which I have set before thee, and thou shalt call them to mind among all the nations, whither the Lord thy God hath driven thee,

    2And shalt return unto the Lord thy God, and shalt obey his voice according to all that I command thee this day, thou and thy children, with all thine heart, and with all thy soul;

3That then the Lord thy God will turn thy captivity, and have compassion upon thee, and will return and gather thee from all the nations, whither the Lord thy God hath scattered thee.

... 5And the Lord thy God will bring thee into the land which thy fathers possessed, and thou shalt possess it; and he will do thee good, and multiply thee above thy fathers.

... 8And thou shalt return and obey the voice of the Lord, and do all his commandments which I command thee this day.

9And the Lord thy God will make thee plenteous in every work of thine hand, in the fruit of thy body, and in the fruit of thy cattle, and in the fruit of thy land, for good: for the Lord will again rejoice over thee for good, as he rejoiced over thy fathers:

16In that I command thee this day to love the Lord thy God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commandments and his statutes and his judgments, that thou mayest live and multiply: and the Lord thy God shall bless thee in the land whither thou goest to possess it.

  2. I Sam. 26:1-3, 5-9, 11-15, 16-18 And (to 2nd ?), 20-23 (to :), 25 (to 1st .)

1And the Ziphites came unto Saul to Gibeah, saying, Doth not David hide himself in the hill of Hachilah, which is before Jeshimon?

2Then Saul arose, and went down to the wilderness of Ziph, having three thousand chosen men of Israel with him, to seek David in the wilderness of Ziph.

3And Saul pitched in the hill of Hachilah, which is before Jeshimon, by the way. But David abode in the wilderness, and he saw that Saul came after him into the wilderness.

5And David arose, and came to the place where Saul had pitched: and David beheld the place where Saul lay, and Abner the son of Ner, the captain of his host: and Saul lay in the trench, and the people pitched round about him.

6Then answered David and said to Ahimelech the Hittite, and to Abishai the son of Zeruiah, brother to Joab, saying, Who will go down with me to Saul to the camp? And Abishai said, I will go down with thee.

7So David and Abishai came to the people by night: and, behold, Saul lay sleeping within the trench, and his spear stuck in the ground at his bolster: but Abner and the people lay round about him.

8Then said Abishai to David, God hath delivered thine enemy into thine hand this day: now therefore let me smite him, I pray thee, with the spear even to the earth at once, and I will not smite him the second time.

9And David said to Abishai, Destroy him not: for who can stretch forth his hand against the Lord’s anointed, and be guiltless?

... 11The Lord forbid that I should stretch forth mine hand against the Lord’s anointed: but, I pray thee, take thou now the spear that is at his bolster, and the cruse of water, and let us go.

12So David took the spear and the cruse of water from Saul’s bolster; and they gat them away, and no man saw it, nor knew it, neither awaked: for they were all asleep; because a deep sleep from the Lord was fallen upon them.

13Then David went over to the other side, and stood on the top of an hill afar off; a great space being between them:

14And David cried to the people, and to Abner the son of Ner, saying, Answerest thou not, Abner? Then Abner answered and said, Who art thou that criest to the king?

15And David said to Abner, Art not thou a valiant man? and who is like to thee in Israel? wherefore then hast thou not kept thy lord the king? for there came one of the people in to destroy the king thy lord.

16And now see where the king’s spear is, and the cruse of water that was at his bolster.

17And Saul knew David’s voice, and said, Is this thy voice, my son David? And David said, It is my voice, my lord, O king.

18And he said, Wherefore doth my lord thus pursue after his servant? for what have I done?

... 20Now therefore, let not my blood fall to the earth before the face of the Lord: for the king of Israel is come out to seek a flea, as when one doth hunt a partridge in the mountains.

21Then said Saul, I have sinned: return, my son David: for I will no more do thee harm, because my soul was precious in thine eyes this day: behold, I have played the fool, and have erred exceedingly.

22And David answered and said, Behold the king’s spear! and let one of the young men come over and fetch it.

23The Lord render to every man his righteousness and his faithfulness:

25Then Saul said to David, Blessed be thou, my son David: thou shalt both do great things, and also shalt still prevail.

  3. II Sam. 8:15

15And David reigned over all Israel; and David executed judgment and justice unto all his people.

  4. Jer. 23:3-5

3And I will gather the remnant of my flock out of all countries whither I have driven them, and will bring them again to their folds; and they shall be fruitful and increase.

4And I will set up shepherds over them which shall feed them: and they shall fear no more, nor be dismayed, neither shall they be lacking, saith the Lord.

5Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth.

  5. Acts 1:1-3

1The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach,

2Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen:

3To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:

  6. Acts 2:25, 29-35

25For David speaketh concerning him, I foresaw the Lord always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved:

... 29Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day.

    30Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne;

31He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption.

32This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses.

33Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.

34For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself, The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand,

35Until I make thy foes thy footstool.

Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures
by Mary Baker Eddy

  1. SH 64:1-2

64:1    Want of uniform justice is a crying evil caused by the selfishness and inhumanity of man.

  2. SH 238:6-9, 12-13, 22-30

6    To obey the Scriptural command, “Come out from among them, and be ye separate,” is to incur society’s frown; but this frown, more than flatteries, enables one 9to be Christian.

12    To fall away from Truth in times of persecution, shows that we never understood Truth.

Attempts to conciliate society and so gain dominion over mankind, arise from worldly weakness. He who leaves 24all for Christ forsakes popularity and gains Christianity.

Society is a foolish juror, listening only to one side of the case. Justice often comes too late to secure a verdict. 27Society and intolerancePeople with mental work before them have no time for gossip about false law or testimony. To reconstruct timid justice and place the fact above the 30falsehood, is the work of time.

  3. SH 239:5, 12-13, 23-30

Take away wealth, fame, and social organizations, 6which weigh not one jot in the balance of God, and we Right views of humanityget clearer views of Principle. Break up cliques, level wealth with honesty, let worth 9be judged according to wisdom, and we get better views of humanity.

Let it be understood that success in error is defeat in Truth.

Mortal mind is the acknowledged seat of human mo-24tives. It forms material concepts and produces every Antagonistic sourcesdiscordant action of the body. If action pro-ceeds from the divine Mind, action is harmo-27nious. If it comes from erring mortal mind, it is discord -ant and ends in sin, sickness, death. Those two opposite sources never mingle in fount or stream. The perfect 30Mind sends forth perfection, for God is Mind.

  4. SH 240:18

18    Mortals move onward towards good or evil as time glides on. If mortals are not progressive, past failures Progress demandedwill be repeated until all wrong work is ef-21faced or rectified. If at present satisfied with wrong-doing, we must learn to loathe it. If at present content with idleness, we must become dissatisfied with 24it. Remember that mankind must sooner or later, either by suffering or by Science, be convinced of the error that is to be overcome.

  5. SH 248:29

Let unselfishness, goodness, mercy, justice, 30health, holiness, love — the kingdom of heaven — reign within us, and sin, disease, and death will diminish until they finally disappear.

  6. SH 542:19

18Let Truth uncover and destroy error in God’s Retribution and remorseown way, and let human justice pattern the 21divine. Sin will receive its full penalty, both for what it is and for what it does. Justice marks the sinner, and teaches mortals not to remove the 24waymarks of God. To envy’s own hell, justice con-signs the lie which, to advance itself, breaks God’s commandments.

  7. SH 465:8-15

    Question. — What is God?

9Answer. — God is incorporeal, divine, supreme, infinite Mind, Spirit, Soul, Principle, Life, Truth, Love.

Question. — Are these terms synonymous?

12Answer. — They are. They refer to one absolute God. They are also intended to express the nature, essence, and wholeness of Deity. The attributes of God are justice, 15mercy, wisdom, goodness, and so on.

  8. SH 542:29-5

The sinful misconception of Life as something less 543 543:1than God, having no truth to support it, falls back upon itself. This error, after reaching the climax of suffering, 3Climax of sufferingyields to Truth and returns to dust; but it is only mortal man and not the real man, who dies.

  9. SH 543:8-15

In divine Science, the material man is shut out from 9the presence of God. The five corporeal senses cannot Dwelling in dreamlandtake cognizance of Spirit. They cannot come into His presence, and must dwell in dream-12land, until mortals arrive at the understanding that ma -terial life, with all its sin, sickness, and death, is an illu-sion, against which divine Science is engaged in a warfare 15of extermination.

  10. SH 2:31-11

Asking God to be God is a vain repetition. God is “the same yesterday, and to-day, and forever;” and 3 3:1He who is immutably right will do right without being reminded of His province. The wisdom of man is not 3sufficient to warrant him in advising God.

Who would stand before a blackboard, and pray the principle of mathematics to solve the problem? The 6The spiritual mathematicsrule is already established, and it is our task to work out the solution. Shall we ask the divine Principle of all goodness to do His own 9work? His work is done, and we have only to avail ourselves of God’s rule in order to receive His bless-ing, which enables us to work out our own salvation.

  11. SH 9:32-13

Consistent prayer is the desire to do right. 10 10:1Prayer means that we desire to walk and will walk in the light so far as we receive it, even though with bleed-3ing footsteps, and that waiting patiently on the Lord, we will leave our real desires to be rewarded by Him.

The world must grow to the spiritual understanding 6of prayer. If good enough to profit by Jesus’ cup of earthly sorrows, God will sustain us under these sor-rows. Until we are thus divinely qualified and are 9willing to drink his cup, millions of vain repetitions will never pour into prayer the unction of Spirit in demonstration of power and “with signs following.” 12Christian Science reveals a necessity for overcoming the world, the flesh, and evil, and thus destroying all error.

  12. SH 115:19-19 (np)
    SCIENTIFIC TRANSLATION OF MORTAL MIND

    First Degree: Depravity.

21Physical. Evil beliefs, passions and appetites, fear, depraved will, self-justification, pride, envy, de-Unrealityceit, hatred, revenge, sin, sickness, disease, 24death.

    Second Degree: Evil beliefs disappearing.

Transitional qualitiesMoral. Humanity, honesty, affection, com-27passion, hope, faith, meekness, temperance.

    116 116:1Third Degree: Understanding.

Spiritual. Wisdom, purity, spiritual understanding, 3Realityspiritual power, love, health, holiness.

In the third degree mortal mind disappears, and man as God’s image appears. Science so reverses the evidence 6Spiritual universebefore the corporeal human senses, as to make this Scriptural testimony true in our hearts, “The last shall be first, and the first last,” so that God 9and His idea may be to us what divinity really is and must of necessity be, — all-inclusive.

A correct view of Christian Science and of its adapta-12tion to healing includes vastly more than is at first seen. Aim of ScienceWorks on metaphysics leave the grand point untouched. They never crown the power of 15Mind as the Messiah, nor do they carry the day against physical enemies, — even to the extinction of all belief in matter, evil, disease, and death, — nor insist upon the fact 18that God is all, therefore that matter is nothing beyond an image in mortal mind.
