Wednesday Meeting Readings
- Ex. 3:1-8 (to 1st ,), 10-12 (to ;)
1Now Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father in law, the priest of Midian: and he led the flock to the backside of the desert, and came to the mountain of God, even to Horeb.
2And the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed.
3And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt.
4And when the Lord saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I.
5And he said, Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground.
6Moreover he said, I am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God.
7¶ And the Lord said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people which are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I know their sorrows;
8And I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians,
10Come now therefore, and I will send thee unto Pharaoh, that thou mayest bring forth my people the children of Israel out of Egypt.
11¶ And Moses said unto God, Who am I, that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt?
12And he said, Certainly I will be with thee;
- Ex. 4:1-8
1And Moses answered and said, But, behold, they will not believe me, nor hearken unto my voice: for they will say, The Lord hath not appeared unto thee.
2And the Lord said unto him, What is that in thine hand? And he said, A rod.
3And he said, Cast it on the ground. And he cast it on the ground, and it became a serpent; and Moses fled from before it.
4And the Lord said unto Moses, Put forth thine hand, and take it by the tail. And he put forth his hand, and caught it, and it became a rod in his hand:
5That they may believe that the Lord God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath appeared unto thee.
6¶ And the Lord said furthermore unto him, Put now thine hand into thy bosom. And he put his hand into his bosom: and when he took it out, behold, his hand was leprous as snow.
7And he said, Put thine hand into thy bosom again. And he put his hand into his bosom again; and plucked it out of his bosom, and, behold, it was turned again as his other flesh.
8And it shall come to pass, if they will not believe thee, neither hearken to the voice of the first sign, that they will believe the voice of the latter sign.
- Deut. 5:1 Moses, 6, 7, 24, 31-33
1Moses called all Israel, and said unto them, Hear, O Israel, the statutes and judgments which I speak in your ears this day, that ye may learn them, and keep, and do them.
6¶ I am the Lord thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.
7Thou shalt have none other gods before me.
24And ye said, Behold, the Lord our God hath shewed us his glory and his greatness, and we have heard his voice out of the midst of the fire: we have seen this day that God doth talk with man, and he liveth.
... 31But as for thee, stand thou here by me, and I will speak unto thee all the commandments, and the statutes, and the judgments, which thou shalt teach them, that they may do them in the land which I give them to possess it.
32Ye shall observe to do therefore as the Lord your God hath commanded you: ye shall not turn aside to the right hand or to the left.
33Ye shall walk in all the ways which the Lord your God hath commanded you, that ye may live, and that it may be well with you, and that ye may prolong your days in the land which ye shall possess.
- Ps. 46:10, 11 (to 1st .)
10Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.
11The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge.
- II Tim. 1:1, 2, 6, 7, 10, 14
1Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, according to the promise of life which is in Christ Jesus,
2To Timothy, my dearly beloved son: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.
... 6Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.
7For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
... 10But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:
... 14That good thing which was committed unto thee keep by the Holy Ghost which dwelleth in us.
- II Tim. 4:1-5 (to 1st ,), 22
1I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom;
2Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
3For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
4And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
5But watch thou in all things,
... 22The Lord Jesus Christ be with thy spirit. Grace be with you. Amen.
Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures
by Mary Baker Eddy
- SH 275:10-24
To grasp the reality and order of being in its Science, you must begin by reckoning God as the divine Principle 12Divine synonyms of all that really is. Spirit, Life, Truth, Love, combine as one, — and are the Scriptural names for God. All substance, intelligence, wisdom, being, im-15mortality, cause, and effect belong to God. These are His attributes, the eternal manifestations of the infinite divine Principle, Love. No wisdom is wise but His 18 wisdom; no truth is true, no love is lovely, no life is Life but the divine; no good is, but the good God bestows.
Divine metaphysics, as revealed to spiritual understand-21ing, shows clearly that all is Mind, and that Mind is The divine completenessGod, omnipotence, omnipresence, omniscience, — that is, all power, all presence, all Science. 24Hence all is in reality the manifestation of Mind.
- SH 287:13
- SH 331:22
- SH 306:25
- SH 471:18-19
- SH 583:20
Creator. Spirit; Mind; intelligence; the animating 21divine Principle of all that is real and good; self-existent Life, Truth, and Love; that which is perfect and eternal; the opposite of matter and evil, which have no Prin-24ciple; God, who made all that was made and could not create an atom or an element the opposite of Himself.
- SH 588:11
There is but one I, or Us, but one divine Principle, or 12Mind, governing all existence; man and woman un-changed forever in their individual characters, even as numbers which never blend with each other, though they 15are governed by one Principle. All the objects of God’s creation reflect one Mind, and whatever reflects not this one Mind, is false and erroneous, even the belief that 18life, substance, and intelligence are both mental and material.
- SH 207:8
God is not the creator of an evil mind. Indeed, evil 9is not Mind. We must learn that evil is the awful decep-Subordination of eviltion and unreality of existence. Evil is not supreme; good is not helpless; nor are the 12so-called laws of matter primary, and the law of Spirit secondary. Without this lesson, we lose sight of the per-fect Father, or the divine Principle of man.
- SH 210:5-6
- SH 232:16-19, 26-7
In our age Christianity is again demonstrating the power of divine Principle, as it did over nineteen hun-18dred years ago, by healing the sick and triumphing over death.
In the sacred sanctuary of Truth are voices of sol-27emn import, but we heed them not. It is only when the Signs followingso-called pleasures and pains of sense pass away in our lives, that we find unquestion-30able signs of the burial of error and the resurrection to spiritual life.
There is neither place nor opportunity in Science for error 233 233:1of any sort. Every day makes its demands upon us for higher proofs rather than professions of Christian power. 3Profession and proofThese proofs consist solely in the destruction of sin, sickness, and death by the power of Spirit, as Jesus destroyed them. This is an element of 6progress, and progress is the law of God, whose law de-mands of us only what we can certainly fulfil.
- SH 36:31-1
- SH 37:27-9
Hear these imperative com-mands : “Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect!” “Go ye into all the world, 30and preach the gospel to every creature!” “Heal the sick!”
Why has this Christian demand so little inspiration 38 38:1to stir mankind to Christian effort? Because men are assured that this command was intended only for a par-3Jesus’ teaching belittledticular period and for a select number of fol-lowers. This teaching is even more pernicious than the old doctrine of foreordination, — the election of a 6few to be saved, while the rest are damned; and so it will be considered, when the lethargy of mortals, produced by man-made doctrines, is broken by the demands of 9divine Science.
- SH 327:17
- SH 241:1 He, 13-30
241:1He, who knows God’s will or the demands of divine Science and 3obeys them, incurs the hostility of envy; and he who refuses obedience to God, is chastened by Love.
The Bible teaches transformation of the body by the renewal of Spirit. Take away the spiritual signification 15Spirit transformsof Scripture, and that compilation can do no more for mortals than can moonbeams to melt a river of ice. The error of the ages is preaching without 18practice.
The substance of all devotion is the reflection and demonstration of divine Love, healing sickness and 21destroying sin. Our Master said, “If ye love me, keep my commandments.”
One’s aim, a point beyond faith, should be to find the 24footsteps of Truth, the way to health and holiness. We should strive to reach the Horeb height where God is re-vealed; and the corner-stone of all spiritual building is 27purity. The baptism of Spirit, washing the body of all the impurities of flesh, signifies that the pure in heart see God and are approaching spiritual Life and its 30demonstration.
- SH 337:14-2
Christian Science demonstrates that none but 15Purity the path to perfectionthe pure in heart can see God, as the gospel teaches. In proportion to his purity is man perfect; and perfection is the order of celestial 18being which demonstrates Life in Christ, Life’s spiritual ideal.
The true idea of man, as the reflection of the 21invisible God, is as incomprehensible to the limited senses True idea of manas is man’s infinite Principle. The visible uni-verse and material man are the poor counter-24feits of the invisible universe and spiritual man. Eternal things (verities) are God’s thoughts as they exist in the spiritual realm of the real. Temporal things are the 27thoughts of mortals and are the unreal, being the oppo-site of the real or the spiritual and eternal.
Subject sickness, sin, and death to the rule 30Truth demonstratedof health and holiness in Christian Science, and you ascertain that this Science is demon-strably true, for it heals the sick and sinning as no 338 338:1other system can. Christian Science, rightly under-stood, leads to eternal harmony.
