The Bible
  1. Ps. 46:1-3 (to 1st .), 4-7 (to 1st .), 8 (to 2nd ,), 9-11 (to 1st .)

1God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

    2Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;

3Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof.

... 4There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the most High.

5God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her, and that right early.

6The heathen raged, the kingdoms were moved: he uttered his voice, the earth melted.

7The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge.

... 8Come, behold the works of the Lord,

... 9He maketh wars to cease unto the end of the earth; he breaketh the bow, and cutteth the spear in sunder; he burneth the chariot in the fire.

10Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.

11The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge.

  2. Isa. 2:2, 4

2And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the Lord’s house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it.

... 4And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.

  3. II Chron. 20:1-6, 9-18, 20-23

1It came to pass after this also, that the children of Moab, and the children of Ammon, and with them other beside the Ammonites, came against Jehoshaphat to battle.

2Then there came some that told Jehoshaphat, saying, There cometh a great multitude against thee from beyond the sea on this side Syria; and, behold, they be in Hazazon–tamar, which is En–gedi.

3And Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek the Lord, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah.

4And Judah gathered themselves together, to ask help of the Lord: even out of all the cities of Judah they came to seek the Lord.

5And Jehoshaphat stood in the congregation of Judah and Jerusalem, in the house of the Lord, before the new court,

6And said, O Lord God of our fathers, art not thou God in heaven? and rulest not thou over all the kingdoms of the heathen? and in thine hand is there not power and might, so that none is able to withstand thee?

9If, when evil cometh upon us, as the sword, judgment, or pestilence, or famine, we stand before this house, and in thy presence, (for thy name is in this house,) and cry unto thee in our affliction, then thou wilt hear and help.

    10And now, behold, the children of Ammon and Moab and mount Seir, whom thou wouldest not let Israel invade, when they came out of the land of Egypt, but they turned from them, and destroyed them not;

11Behold, I say, how they reward us, to come to cast us out of thy possession, which thou hast given us to inherit.

12O our God, wilt thou not judge them? for we have no might against this great company that cometh against us; neither know we what to do: but our eyes are upon thee.

13And all Judah stood before the Lord, with their little ones, their wives, and their children.

    14Then upon Jahaziel the son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, a Levite of the sons of Asaph, came the spirit of the Lord in the midst of the congregation;

15And he said, Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king Jehoshaphat, Thus saith the Lord unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God’s.

16To-morrow go ye down against them: behold, they come up by the cliff of Ziz; and ye shall find them at the end of the brook, before the wilderness of Jeruel.

17Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the Lord with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; to-morrow go out against them: for the Lord will be with you.

18And Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell before the Lord, worshipping the Lord.

20And they rose early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa: and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear me, O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem; Believe in the Lord your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.

21And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed singers unto the Lord, and that should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army, and to say, Praise the Lord; for his mercy endureth for ever.

22And when they began to sing and to praise, the Lord set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come against Judah; and they were smitten.

23For the children of Ammon and Moab stood up against the inhabitants of mount Seir, utterly to slay and destroy them: and when they had made an end of the inhabitants of Seir, every one helped to destroy another.

Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures
by Mary Baker Eddy

  1. SH 467:1-13

467:1Question. — What are the demands of the Science of Soul?

3Answer. — The first demand of this Science is, “Thou shalt have no other gods before me.” This me is Spirit. Two chief commandsTherefore the command means this: Thou shalt 6have no intelligence, no life, no substance, no truth, no love, but that which is spiritual. The second is like unto it, “Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.” 9It should be thoroughly understood that all men have one Mind, one God and Father, one Life, Truth, and Love. Mankind will become perfect in proportion as this fact 12becomes apparent, war will cease and the true brother-hood of man will be established.

  2. SH 96:12-15, 25-27, 31-20

12    This material world is even now becoming the arena for conflicting forces. On one side there will be discord Arena of contestand dismay; on the other side there will be 15Science and peace.

As this consummation draws nearer, he who has shaped his course in accordance with divine Science 27Millennial glorywill endure to the end.

During this final conflict, wicked minds will endeavor to find means by which to accomplish more evil; but 97 97:1those who discern Christian Science will hold crime in check. They will aid in the ejection of error. They 3will maintain law and order, and cheerfully await the certainty of ultimate perfection.

In reality, the more closely error simulates truth and 6so-called matter resembles its essence, mortal mind, the Dangerous resemblancesmore impotent error becomes as a belief. Ac-cording to human belief, the lightning is fierce 9and the electric current swift, yet in Christian Science the flight of one and the blow of the other will become harmless. The more destructive matter becomes, the 12more its nothingness will appear, until matter reaches its mortal zenith in illusion and forever disappears. The nearer a false belief approaches truth without passing 15the boundary where, having been destroyed by divine Love, it ceases to be even an illusion, the riper it becomes for destruction. The more material the belief, the more 18obvious its error, until divine Spirit, supreme in its do-main, dominates all matter, and man is found in the like-ness of Spirit, his original being.

  3. SH 45:16

Glory be to God, and peace to the struggling hearts! Christ hath rolled away the stone from the door of hu -18The stone rolled awayman hope and faith, and through the reve-lation and demonstration of life in God, hath elevated them to possible at-one-ment with the spiritual 21idea of man and his divine Principle, Love.

  4. SH 584:26

Dove. A symbol of divine Science; purity and peace; 27hope and faith.

  5. SH 255:1-6

255:1Eternal Truth is changing the universe. As mor-tals drop off their mental swaddling-clothes, thought 3Inadequate theories of creationexpands into expression. “Let there be light,” is the perpetual demand of Truth and Love, changing chaos into order and discord into the 6music of the spheres.

  6. SH 570:14, 30

Millions of unprejudiced minds — simple seekers for 15Truth, weary wanderers, athirst in the desert — are wait-Receptive heartsing and watching for rest and drink. Give them a cup of cold water in Christ’s name, 18and never fear the consequences. What if the old dragon should send forth a new flood to drown the Christ-idea? He can neither drown your voice with its roar, nor again 21sink the world into the deep waters of chaos and old night. In this age the earth will help the woman; the spiritual idea will be understood. Those ready for the blessing 24you impart will give thanks. The waters will be paci-fied, and Christ will command the wave.

30Many are willing to open the eyes of the people to the power of good resident in divine Mind, but they are 571 571:1not so willing to point out the evil in human thought, and expose evil’s hidden mental ways of accomplishing 3iniquity.

  7. SH 571:10

Who is telling mankind of the foe in ambush? Is the informer one who sees the 12foe? If so, listen and be wise. Escape from evil, and designate those as unfaithful stewards who have seen the danger and yet have given no warning.

  8. SH 393:12-18

12Rise in the strength of Spirit to resist all that is unlike good. God has made man capable of this, and nothing can vitiate the ability and power divinely bestowed on 15man.

Be firm in your understanding that the divine Mind governs, and that in Science man reflects God’s govern-18No pain in matterment.

  9. SH 330:25-27 The

The notion that both evil and good are real is a delusion of material sense, which Science annihilates. 27Evil obsoleteEvil is nothing, no thing, mind, nor power.

  10. SH 398:32

The great fact remains that evil is not mind. Evil has 399 399:1no power, no intelligence, for God is good, and therefore good is infinite, is All.

  11. SH 307:31-8

Above error’s awful din, blackness, and chaos, the voice of Truth still calls: “Adam, where art thou? Conscious-308308:1ness, where art thou? Art thou dwelling in the belief that mind is in matter, and that evil is mind, or art thou 3The great questionin the living faith that there is and can be but one God, and keeping His commandment?” Until the lesson is learned that God is the only Mind gov -6erning man, mortal belief will be afraid as it was in the beginning, and will hide from the demand, “Where art thou?”

  12. SH 479:21

In the vast forever, in the Science and truth of being, the only facts are Spirit and its innumerable creations. Darkness and chaos 24are the imaginary opposites of light, understanding, and eternal harmony, and they are the elements of nothingness.

  13. SH 473:4 (only)

The Science of Mind disposes of all evil.

  14. SH 480:1, 19-5

480:1When the substance of Spirit appears in Christian Sci-ence, the nothingness of matter is recognized. Where 3the spirit of God is, and there is no place where God is not, evil becomes nothing, — the opposite of the some-thing of Spirit. If there is no spiritual reflection, then 6there remains only the darkness of vacuity and not a trace of heavenly tints.

Man is not God, and God is not man. Again, God, or good, never made man capable of sin. It is the oppo-21Evil non-existentsite of good — that is, evil — which seems to make men capable of wrong-doing. Hence, evil is but an illusion, and it has no real basis. Evil is a 24false belief. God is not its author. The supposititious parent of evil is a lie.

The Bible declares: “All things were made by Him 27 [the divine Word]; and without Him was not anything Vapor and nothingnessmade that was made.” This is the eternal verity of divine Science. If sin, sickness, and 30death were understood as nothingness, they would dis-appear. As vapor melts before the sun, so evil would vanish before the reality of good. One must hide the 481 481:1other. How important, then, to choose good as the reality! Man is tributary to God, Spirit, and to nothing 3else. God’s being is infinity, freedom, harmony, and boundless bliss. “Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.”
