The Bible
  1. Prov. 25:11-13 (to :)

11A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.

12As an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprover upon an obedient ear.

13As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, so is a faithful messenger to them that send him:

  2. I Sam. 3:1-13, 15-20

1And the child Samuel ministered unto the Lord before Eli. And the word of the Lord was precious in those days; there was no open vision.

    2And it came to pass at that time, when Eli was laid down in his place, and his eyes began to wax dim, that he could not see;

    3And ere the lamp of God went out in the temple of the Lord, where the ark of God was, and Samuel was laid down to sleep;

4That the Lord called Samuel: and he answered, Here am I.

5And he ran unto Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou calledst me. And he said, I called not; lie down again. And he went and lay down.

6And the Lord called yet again, Samuel. And Samuel arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou didst call me. And he answered, I called not, my son; lie down again.

7Now Samuel did not yet know the Lord, neither was the word of the Lord yet revealed unto him.

8And the Lord called Samuel again the third time. And he arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou didst call me. And Eli perceived that the Lord had called the child.

9Therefore Eli said unto Samuel, Go, lie down: and it shall be, if he call thee, that thou shalt say, Speak, Lord; for thy servant heareth. So Samuel went and lay down in his place.

10And the Lord came, and stood, and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel. Then Samuel answered, Speak; for thy servant heareth.

11And the Lord said to Samuel, Behold, I will do a thing in Israel, at which both the ears of every one that heareth it shall tingle.

12In that day I will perform against Eli all things which I have spoken concerning his house: when I begin, I will also make an end.

13For I have told him that I will judge his house for ever for the iniquity which he knoweth; because his sons made themselves vile, and he restrained them not.

15And Samuel lay until the morning, and opened the doors of the house of the Lord. And Samuel feared to shew Eli the vision.

16Then Eli called Samuel, and said, Samuel, my son. And he answered, Here am I.

17And he said, What is the thing that the Lord hath said unto thee? I pray thee hide it not from me: God do so to thee, and more also, if thou hide any thing from me of all the things that he said unto thee.

18And Samuel told him every whit, and hid nothing from him. And he said, It is the Lord: let him do what seemeth him good.

19And Samuel grew, and the Lord was with him, and did let none of his words fall to the ground.

20And all Israel from Dan even to Beer–sheba knew that Samuel was established to be a prophet of the Lord.

  3. Ps. 85:8 (to 2nd :)

8I will hear what God the Lord will speak: for he will speak peace unto his people, and to his saints:

  4. Eccl. 12:13, 14

13Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.

14For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.

  5. Mark 12:28-34 one (to 1st .)

28one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that he had answered them well, asked him, Which is the first commandment of all?

29And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord:

30And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.

31And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.

32And the scribe said unto him, Well, Master, thou hast said the truth: for there is one God; and there is none other but he:

33And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbour as himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.

34And when Jesus saw that he answered discreetly, he said unto him, Thou art not far from the kingdom of God.

  6. James 1:12

12Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.

Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures
by Mary Baker Eddy

  1. SH 308:14

The Soul-inspired patriarchs heard the voice of Truth, 15and talked with God as consciously as man talks with man.

  2. SH 340:4-29

This text in the book of Ecclesiastes conveys the Christian Science thought, especially when the word 6duty, which is not in the original, is omitted: “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep His commandments: for this is the whole 9duty of man.” In other words: Let us hear the con-clusion of the whole matter: love God and keep His commandments: for this is the whole of man in His 12 image and likeness. Divine Love is infinite. Therefore all that really exists is in and of God, and manifests His love.

15    “Thou shalt have no other gods before me.” (Exodus xx. 3.) The First Commandment is my favorite text. It demonstrates Christian Science. It inculcates the tri-18unity of God, Spirit, Mind; it signifies that man shall have no other spirit or mind but God, eternal good, and that all men shall have one Mind. The divine Principle 21 of the First Commandment bases the Science of being, by which man demonstrates health, holiness, and life eternal. One infinite God, good, unifies men and nations; con -24stitutes the brotherhood of man; ends wars; fulfils the Scripture, “Love thy neighbor as thyself;” annihilates pagan and Christian idolatry, — whatever is wrong in 27social, civil, criminal, political, and religious codes; equalizes the sexes; annuls the curse on man, and leaves nothing that can sin, suffer, be punished or destroyed.

  3. SH 385:15-18

15    Constant toil, deprivations, exposures, and all untow-ard conditions, if without sin, can be experienced with-Honest toil has no penaltyout suffering. Whatever it is your duty to do, 18you can do without harm to yourself.

  4. SH 9:11

If selfishness has given place to kindness, 12we shall regard our neighbor unselfishly, and bless them that curse us; but we shall never meet this great duty simply by asking that it may be done. There is 15a cross to be taken up before we can enjoy the fruition of our hope and faith.

  5. SH 496:5

You will learn 6that in Christian Science the first duty is to obey God, to have one Mind, and to love another as yourself.

  6. SH 267:8, 28

It is generally conceded that God is Father, eternal, self-9created, infinite. If this is so, the forever Father must have had children prior to Adam. The great I am made all “that was made.” Hence man and the spiritual uni-12verse coexist with God.

“Blessed is the man that en-dureth [overcometh] temptation: for when he is tried, 30[proved faithful], he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.” (James i. 12.)

  7. SH 569:6-11

6    The Scripture, “Thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many,” is literally ful-The robe of Sciencefilled, when we are conscious of the supremacy 9of Truth, by which the nothingness of error is seen; and we know that the nothingness of error is in proportion to its wickedness.

  8. SH 456:5-7, 25

3Strict adherence to the divine Principle and 6rules of the scientific method has secured the only success of the students of Christian Science.

A Christian Scientist requires my work Science and Health for his textbook, and so do all his students and 27This volume indispensablepatients. Why? First: Because it is the voice of Truth to this age, and contains the full statement of Christian Science, or the Science of healing 30through Mind. Second: Because it was the first book known, containing a thorough statement of Christian Science. Hence it gave the first rules for demonstrating 457 457:1this Science, and registered the revealed Truth uncon-taminated by human hypotheses. Other works, which 3have borrowed from this book without giving it credit, have adulterated the Science. Third: Because this book has done more for teacher and student, for healer and 6patient, than has been accomplished by other books.

  9. SH 459:31

The Christian Scientist should understand and adhere strictly to the rules of divine meta-460460:1physics as laid down in this work, and rest his demonstra-tion on this sure basis.

  10. SH 460:24

24    When the Science of Mind was a fresh revelation to the author, she had to impart, while teaching its grand Author’s early instructionsfacts, the hue of spiritual ideas from her own 27spiritual condition, and she had to do this orally through the meagre channel afforded by language and by her manuscript circulated among the students. As for-30mer beliefs were gradually expelled from her thought, the teaching became clearer, until finally the shadow of old errors was no longer cast upon divine Science.

  11. SH vii:22

A book introduces new thoughts, but it cannot make them speedily understood. It is the task of the sturdy 24pioneer to hew the tall oak and to cut the rough granite. Future ages must declare what the pioneer has accomplished.

  12. SH xi:22

When God called the author to proclaim His Gospel to this age, there came also the charge to plant and 24water His vineyard.

  13. SH 152:5-8, 21

The author has endeavored 6to make this book the Æsculapius of mind as well as of body, that it may give hope to the sick and heal them, although they know not how the work is done.

21    The author’s medical researches and experiments had prepared her thought for the metaphysics of Christian The author’s experiments in medicineScience. Every material dependence had 24failed her in her search for truth; and she can now understand why, and can see the means by which mortals are divinely driven to a spiritual source 27for health and happiness.

  14. SH 162:16

Working out the rules of Science in practice, the author has re-18stored health in cases of both acute and chronic disease in their severest forms. Secretions have been changed, the structure has been renewed, shortened limbs have been 21elongated, ankylosed joints have been made supple, and carious bones have been restored to healthy conditions. I have restored what is called the lost substance of lungs, and 24healthy organizations have been established where disease was organic. Christian Science heals organic disease as surely as it heals what is called functional, for it requires 27only a fuller understanding of the divine Principle of Christian Science to demonstrate the higher rule.

  15. SH 546:31

If mathematics should present a thousand different examples of one rule, the proving of one example would 547 547:1authenticate all the others. A simple statement of Chris-tian Science, if demonstrated by healing, contains the 3Proof given in healingproof of all here said of Christian Science. If one of the statements in this book is true, every one must be true, for not one departs from the stated sys-6tem and rule. You can prove for yourself, dear reader, the Science of healing, and so ascertain if the author has given you the correct interpretation of Scripture.

  16. SH 457:7-10

Since the divine light of Christian Science first dawned upon the author, she has never used this newly discovered 9Purity of sciencepower in any direction which she fears to have fairly understood.

  17. SH 464:21-23

21    In founding a pathological system of Christianity, the author has labored to expound divine Principle, and not The right motive and its rewardto exalt personality.

  18. SH 343:1

Shall I then be smitten for healing and for teaching Truth as the Prin-3ciple of healing, and for proving my word by my deed? James said: “Show me thy faith without thy works, and I will show thee my faith by my works.”

  19. SH 348:26

I have never supposed the world would immediately 27witness the full fruitage of Christian Science, or that sin, Full fruitage yet to comedisease, and death would not be believed for an indefinite time; but this I do aver, that, 30as a result of teaching Christian Science, ethics and temperance have received an impulse, health has been restored, and longevity increased. If such are the pres-349349:1ent fruits, what will the harvest be, when this Science is more generally understood?

  20. SH 454:14-18

He, who understands in a sufficient degree the Princi-15ple of Mind-healing, points out to his student error as Love the incentivewell as truth, the wrong as well as the right practice. Love for God and man is the true 18incentive in both healing and teaching.
