The Bible
  1. Eccl. 3:1-3, 9-11, 14 (to 2nd :)

1To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:

    2A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;

    3A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;

... 9What profit hath he that worketh in that wherein he laboureth?

10I have seen the travail, which God hath given to the sons of men to be exercised in it.

11He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end.

... 14I know that, whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it:

  2. Matt. 13:24-30

24Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field:

25But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way.

26But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also.

27So the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst not thou sow good seed in thy field? from whence then hath it tares?

28He said unto them, An enemy hath done this. The servants said unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up?

29But he said, Nay; lest while ye gather up the tares, ye root up also the wheat with them.

30Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn.

  3. Matt. 13:44-48

44Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field.

45Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls:

46Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.

47Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a net, that was cast into the sea, and gathered of every kind:

48Which, when it was full, they drew to shore, and sat down, and gathered the good into vessels, but cast the bad away.

  4. John 6:16-21, 27

16And when even was now come, his disciples went down unto the sea,

17And entered into a ship, and went over the sea toward Capernaum. And it was now dark, and Jesus was not come to them.

18And the sea arose by reason of a great wind that blew.

19So when they had rowed about five and twenty or thirty furlongs, they see Jesus walking on the sea, and drawing nigh unto the ship: and they were afraid.

20But he saith unto them, It is I; be not afraid.

21Then they willingly received him into the ship: and immediately the ship was at the land whither they went.

27Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed.

  5. John 11:1, 3, 4, 17 when, 32-34, 38, 41-44

1Now a certain man was sick, named Lazarus, of Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha.

... 3Therefore his sisters sent unto him, saying, Lord, behold, he whom thou lovest is sick.

4When Jesus heard that, he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby.

17 ... when Jesus came, he found that he had lain in the grave four days already.

... 32Then when Mary was come where Jesus was, and saw him, she fell down at his feet, saying unto him, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.

33When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews also weeping which came with her, he groaned in the spirit, and was troubled,

34And said, Where have ye laid him? They said unto him, Lord, come and see.

... 38Jesus therefore again groaning in himself cometh to the grave. It was a cave, and a stone lay upon it.

... 41Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me.

42And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the people which stand by I said it, that they may believe that thou hast sent me.

43And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth.

44And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes: and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go.

  6. Rom. 8:5-7 they, 9 (to 1st .)

5they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.

6For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

7Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.

... 9But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you.

Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures

by Mary Baker Eddy

  1. SH 131:10

The central fact of the Bible is the superiority of spiritual over physical power.

  2. SH 468:26-5 Life (to 1st .)

Life is divine Principle, Mind, Soul, Spirit. 27Eternity of LifeLife is without beginning and without end. Eternity, not time, expresses the thought of Life, and time is no part of eternity. One ceases in 30proportion as the other is recognized. Time is finite; 469 469:1eternity is forever infinite. Life is neither in nor of mat-ter. What is termed matter is unknown to Spirit, which 3includes in itself all substance and is Life eternal. Mat-ter is a human concept. Life is divine Mind. Life is not limited.

  3. SH 249:18-19

18    Life is, like Christ, “the same yesterday, and to-day, and forever.”

  4. SH 275:10

To grasp the reality and order of being in its Science, you must begin by reckoning God as the divine Principle 12Divine synonyms of all that really is. Spirit, Life, Truth, Love, combine as one, — and are the Scriptural names for God. All substance, intelligence, wisdom, being, im-15mortality, cause, and effect belong to God. These are His attributes, the eternal manifestations of the infinite divine Principle, Love. No wisdom is wise but His 18 wisdom; no truth is true, no love is lovely, no life is Life but the divine; no good is, but the good God bestows.

  5. SH 595:17-19 (to 1st ;)

    Time. Mortal measurements; limits, in which are 18summed up all human acts, thoughts, beliefs, opinions, knowledge;

  6. SH 598:30

Time is a mortal thought, the divisor of which 599 599:1is the solar year. Eternity is God’s measurement of Soul-filled years.

  7. SH 584:4-6

3The objects of time and sense disappear in the illumination of spiritual understanding, and Mind 6 measures time according to the good that is unfolded.

  8. SH 276:12-14, 17

12    The realization that all inharmony is unreal brings objects and thoughts into human view in their true light, and presents them as beautiful and immortal.

If God is admitted to be the only Mind and Life, 18there ceases to be any opportunity for sin and death. Perfection requisiteWhen we learn in Science how to be perfect even as our Father in heaven is perfect, 21thought is turned into new and healthy channels, — towards the contemplation of things immortal and away from materiality to the Principle of the universe, includ-24ing harmonious man.

  9. SH 277:2-10, 24 (only), 26-27, 29

To all that is unlike unerring and eternal 3Mind, this Mind saith, “Thou shalt surely die;” and else-where the Scripture says that dust returns to dust. The non-intelligent relapses into its own unreality. Matter 6never produces mind. The immortal never produces the mortal. Good cannot result in evil. As God Himself is good and is Spirit, goodness and spirituality must be im-9mortal. Their opposites, evil and matter, are mortal error, and error has no creator.

24    The realm of the real is Spirit. ... Matter is an error of state-27ment. ... Nothing we can say or believe regarding matter is immor-30tal, for matter is temporal and is therefore a mortal phe-nomenon, a human concept, sometimes beautiful, always erroneous.

  10. SH 466:13

Truth is immortal; error is mortal. Truth is limitless; error is limited. Truth is intelligent; error 15is non-intelligent. Moreover, Truth is real, and error is unreal. This last statement contains the point you will most reluctantly admit, although first and last it is the 18most important to understand.

  11. SH 402:8-12

The time approaches when mortal mind will forsake 9its corporeal, structural, and material basis, when im-Indestructible life of manmortal Mind and its formations will be appre-hended in Science, and material beliefs will 12not interfere with spiritual facts.

  12. SH 477:13

Divine Science shows it to be impossible that a material body, though 15interwoven with matter’s highest stratum, misnamed mind, should be man, — the genuine and perfect man, the immortal idea of being, indestructible and eternal. 18Were it otherwise, man would be annihilated.

  13. SH 430:3-5

Mortal mind must part with error, must put off itself with its deeds, and immortal manhood, the Christ ideal, will appear.

  14. SH 300:13

The temporal and unreal never touch the eternal and real. The mutable and imperfect never touch the im-15The tares and wheatmutable and perfect. The inharmonious and self-destructive never touch the harmonious and self-existent. These opposite qualities are the tares 18and wheat, which never really mingle, though (to mortal sight) they grow side by side until the harvest; then, Sci-ence separates the wheat from the tares, through the real-21ization of God as ever present and of man as reflecting the divine likeness.

  15. SH 486:23-26

Sight, hearing, all the spiritual senses of man, are 24eternal. They cannot be lost. Their reality and immor-Permanent sensibilitytality are in Spirit and understanding, not in matter, — hence their permanence.

  16. SH 301:6-12, 17-22 (to 1st ,)

To himself, mortal and material man seems to be substance, but his sense of substance involves error and therefore is material, 9temporal.

On the other hand, the immortal, spiritual man is really substantial, and reflects the eternal substance, or Spirit, 12which mortals hope for.

As God is substance and man is the divine image and 18likeness, man should wish for, and in reality has, only Inverted images and ideasthe substance of good, the substance of Spirit, not matter. The belief that man has any other 21substance, or mind, is not spiritual and breaks the First Commandment,

  17. SH 425:21-26

21God is more to a man than his belief, and the less we ac-knowledge matter or its laws, the more immortality we possess. Consciousness constructs a better body when 24faith in matter has been conquered. Correct material belief by spiritual understanding, and Spirit will form you anew.

  18. SH 428:22

The great spiritual fact must be brought out that man is, not shall be, perfect and immortal. We must hold 24The present immortalityforever the consciousness of existence, and sooner or later, through Christ and Christian Science, we must master sin and death. The evidence 27of man’s immortality will become more apparent, as ma-terial beliefs are given up and the immortal facts of being are admitted.
