  1. Ps. 42:2 (to :), 5, 7, 8

2My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God:

... 5Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance.

... 7Deep calleth unto deep at the noise of thy waterspouts: all thy waves and thy billows are gone over me.

8Yet the Lord will command his lovingkindness in the daytime, and in the night his song shall be with me, and my prayer unto the God of my life.

  2. Ps. 43:1, 2

1Judge me, O God, and plead my cause against an ungodly nation: O deliver me from the deceitful and unjust man.

2For thou art the God of my strength: why dost thou cast me off? why go I mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?

  3. Num. 22:3 2nd Moab, 4 Balak, 5 (to 1st ,), 6 (to ;), 21, 22 (to 1st .), 27, 28, 31, 32, 34 (to ;)

3Moab was distressed because of the children of Israel.

4 ... Balak the son of Zippor was king of the Moabites at that time.

5He sent messengers therefore unto Balaam the son of Beor to Pethor,

    ... 6Come now therefore, I pray thee, curse me this people;

21And Balaam rose up in the morning, and saddled his ass, and went with the princes of Moab.

22And God’s anger was kindled because he went: and the angel of the Lord stood in the way for an adversary against him.

27And when the ass saw the angel of the Lord, she fell down under Balaam: and Balaam’s anger was kindled, and he smote the ass with a staff.

28And the Lord opened the mouth of the ass, and she said unto Balaam, What have I done unto thee, that thou hast smitten me these three times?

... 31Then the Lord opened the eyes of Balaam, and he saw the angel of the Lord standing in the way, and his sword drawn in his hand: and he bowed down his head, and fell flat on his face.

32And the angel of the Lord said unto him, Wherefore hast thou smitten thine ass these three times? behold, I went out to withstand thee, because thy way is perverse before me:

    ... 34And Balaam said unto the angel of the Lord, I have sinned;

  4. Jer. 29:8-11 thus, 13, 14

8thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel; Let not your prophets and your diviners, that be in the midst of you, deceive you, neither hearken to your dreams which ye cause to be dreamed.

9For they prophesy falsely unto you in my name: I have not sent them, saith the Lord.

10For thus saith the Lord, That after seventy years be accomplished at Babylon I will visit you, and perform my good word toward you, in causing you to return to this place.

11For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

13And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.

14And I will be found of you, saith the Lord: and I will turn away your captivity, and I will gather you from all the nations, and from all the places whither I have driven you, saith the Lord; and I will bring you again into the place whence I caused you to be carried away captive.

  5. Matt. 15:7-9, 22-28

7Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying,

8This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.

9But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

22And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil.

23But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she crieth after us.

24But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

25Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me.

26But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children’s bread, and to cast it to dogs.

27And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.

28Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.

  6. Matt. 24:35, 42-46

35Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.

42Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.

43But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up.

44Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.

45Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season?

46Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.

  7. Eph. 6:10-16

10Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.

11Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

12For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

13Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

    14Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

    15And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

16Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures
by Mary Baker Eddy
  1. SH 343:21

21    It would sometimes seem as if truth were rejected be-cause meekness and spirituality are the conditions of its acceptance, while Christendom generally demands so 24much less.

  2. SH 10:12

12Christian Science reveals a necessity for overcoming the world, the flesh, and evil, and thus destroying all error.

  3. SH 465:14

12The attributes of God are justice, 15mercy, wisdom, goodness, and so on.

  4. SH 102:18-23, 30-31

18The looms of crime, hidden in the dark re-cesses of mortal thought, are every hour weav-ing webs more complicated and subtle. So secret are the 21present methods of animal magnetism that they ensnare the age into indolence, and produce the very apathy on the subject which the criminal desires.

30    Mankind must learn that evil is not power. Its so-called despotism is but a phase of nothingness.

  5. SH 367:30

30    Because Truth is infinite, error should be known as nothing. Because Truth is omnipotent in goodness, error, Truth’s opposite, has no might. Evil is but the 368 368:1counterpoise of nothingness. The greatest wrong is but a supposititious opposite of the highest right. The 3Real and counterfeitconfidence inspired by Science lies in the fact that Truth is real and error is unreal. Error is a coward before Truth. Divine Science insists that 6time will prove all this. Both truth and error have come nearer than ever before to the apprehension of mortals, and truth will become still clearer as error is self-9destroyed.

  6. SH 447:12-14, 20-22, 24

12    Ignorance, subtlety, or false charity does not for-ever conceal error; evil will in time disclose and pun-Expose sin without believing in itish itself. ... Expose and denounce the claims of 21evil and disease in all their forms, but realize no reality in them. ... To put down the claim of sin, you must detect it, remove the mask, point out the illusion, and thus get the victory over sin and so prove 27its unreality. The sick are not healed merely by declaring there is no sickness, but by knowing that there is none.

  7. SH 398:32

The great fact remains that evil is not mind. Evil has 399 399:1no power, no intelligence, for God is good, and therefore good is infinite, is All.

  8. SH 451:26-3

All mental 27malpractice arises from ignorance or malice aforethought. It is the injurious action of one mortal mind controlling another from wrong motives, and it is practised either 30with a mistaken or a wicked purpose.

Show your student that mental malpractice tends to blast moral sense, health, and the human life. Instruct 452 452:1him how to bar the door of his thought against this seeming power, — a task not difficult, when one under-3Indispensable defencestands that evil has in reality no power.

  9. SH 270:22-25, 26-27

The pride of priesthood is the prince of this world. It has nothing in Christ. Meekness and charity have divine 24authority. Mortals think wickedly; consequently they are wicked. ... If sin makes sinners, Truth and Love alone can 27unmake them.

  10. SH 271:1

Christ’s Christianity is the chain of scientific being reappearing 3in all ages, maintaining its obvious correspondence with the Scriptures and uniting all periods in the design of God. Neither emasculation, illusion, nor insubordination 6exists in divine Science.

  11. SH 293:24

24The manifestations of evil, which counterfeit divine justice, are called in the Scriptures, “The anger of the Lord.” In reality, they show the self-destruction 27of error or matter and point to matter’s opposite, the strength and permanency of Spirit. Christian Science brings to light Truth and its supremacy, universal har-30mony, the entireness of God, good, and the nothingness of evil.

  12. SH 207:8-13, 20

God is not the creator of an evil mind. Indeed, evil 9is not Mind. We must learn that evil is the awful decep-Subordination of eviltion and unreality of existence. Evil is not supreme; good is not helpless; nor are the 12so-called laws of matter primary, and the law of Spirit secondary.

There is but one primal cause. Therefore there can 21be no effect from any other cause, and there can be no One primal causereality in aught which does not proceed from this great and only cause. Sin, sickness, dis -24ease, and death belong not to the Science of being. They are the errors, which presuppose the absence of Truth, Life, or Love.

  13. SH 225:14, 25-28

The history of our country, like all history, illustrates 15the might of Mind, and shows human power to be propor-Immortal sentencestionate to its embodiment of right thinking. A few immortal sentences, breathing the omnipo-18tence of divine justice, have been potent to break despotic fetters and abolish the whipping-post and slave market; but oppression neither went down in blood, nor did the 21breath of freedom come from the cannon’s mouth. Love is the liberator.

The despotic tenden-cies, inherent in mortal mind and always ger-27minating in new forms of tyranny, must be rooted out through the action of the divine Mind.

  14. SH 192:11-26

Erring power is a material belief, a blind miscalled force, 12the offspring of will and not of wisdom, of the mortal mind Human power a blind forceand not of the immortal. It is the headlong cataract, the devouring flame, the tempest’s 15breath. It is lightning and hurricane, all that is selfish, wicked, dishonest, and impure.

Moral and spiritual might belong to Spirit, who holds 18the “wind in His fists;” and this teaching accords with The one real powerScience and harmony. In Science, you can have no power opposed to God, and the physi-21cal senses must give up their false testimony. Your in-fluence for good depends upon the weight you throw into the right scale. The good you do and embody gives you 24the only power obtainable. Evil is not power. It is a mockery of strength, which erelong betrays its weakness and falls, never to rise.

  15. SH 76:6-10, 18

6    When being is understood, Life will be recognized as neither material nor finite, but as infinite, — as God, Real Life is Goduniversal good; and the belief that life, or 9mind, was ever in a finite form, or good in evil, will be destroyed.

18    Suffering, sinning, dying beliefs are unreal. When divine Science is universally understood, they will have no power over man, for man is immortal and lives by 21divine authority.

  16. SH 571:15

15    At all times and under all circumstances, overcome evil with good. Know thyself, and God will supply The armor of divinitythe wisdom and the occasion for a victory 18over evil. Clad in the panoply of Love, human hatred cannot reach you. The cement of a higher humanity will unite all interests in the one 21divinity.
