  1. II Kings 8:1-6

1Then spake Elisha unto the woman, whose son he had restored to life, saying, Arise, and go thou and thine household, and sojourn wheresoever thou canst sojourn: for the Lord hath called for a famine; and it shall also come upon the land seven years.

2And the woman arose, and did after the saying of the man of God: and she went with her household, and sojourned in the land of the Philistines seven years.

3And it came to pass at the seven years’ end, that the woman returned out of the land of the Philistines: and she went forth to cry unto the king for her house and for her land.

4And the king talked with Gehazi the servant of the man of God, saying, Tell me, I pray thee, all the great things that Elisha hath done.

5And it came to pass, as he was telling the king how he had restored a dead body to life, that, behold, the woman, whose son he had restored to life, cried to the king for her house and for her land. And Gehazi said, My lord, O king, this is the woman, and this is her son, whom Elisha restored to life.

6And when the king asked the woman, she told him. So the king appointed unto her a certain officer, saying, Restore all that was hers, and all the fruits of the field since the day that she left the land, even until now.

  2. Neh. 5:1-13

1And there was a great cry of the people and of their wives against their brethren the Jews.

2For there were that said, We, our sons, and our daughters, are many: therefore we take up corn for them, that we may eat, and live.

3Some also there were that said, We have mortgaged our lands, vineyards, and houses, that we might buy corn, because of the dearth.

4There were also that said, We have borrowed money for the king’s tribute, and that upon our lands and vineyards.

5Yet now our flesh is as the flesh of our brethren, our children as their children: and, lo, we bring into bondage our sons and our daughters to be servants, and some of our daughters are brought unto bondage already: neither is it in our power to redeem them; for other men have our lands and vineyards.

6And I was very angry when I heard their cry and these words.

7Then I consulted with myself, and I rebuked the nobles, and the rulers, and said unto them, Ye exact usury, every one of his brother. And I set a great assembly against them.

8And I said unto them, We after our ability have redeemed our brethren the Jews, which were sold unto the heathen; and will ye even sell your brethren? or shall they be sold unto us? Then held they their peace, and found nothing to answer.

9Also I said, It is not good that ye do: ought ye not to walk in the fear of our God because of the reproach of the heathen our enemies?

10I likewise, and my brethren, and my servants, might exact of them money and corn: I pray you, let us leave off this usury.

11Restore, I pray you, to them, even this day, their lands, their vineyards, their oliveyards, and their houses, also the hundredth part of the money, and of the corn, the wine, and the oil, that ye exact of them.

12Then said they, We will restore them, and will require nothing of them; so will we do as thou sayest. Then I called the priests, and took an oath of them, that they should do according to this promise.

13Also I shook my lap, and said, So God shake out every man from his house, and from his labour, that performeth not this promise, even thus be he shaken out, and emptied. And all the congregation said, Amen, and praised the Lord. And the people did according to this promise.

  3. Ps. 23:1, 3

1The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

... 3He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

  4. Joel 2:23 (to :), 25 (to first ,), 26

23Be glad then, ye children of Zion, and rejoice in the Lord your God:

... 25And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpillar, and the palmerworm, my great army which I sent among you.

... 26And ye shall eat in plenty, and be satisfied, and praise the name of the Lord your God, that hath dealt wondrously with you: and my people shall never be ashamed.

  5. Gen. 42:1-3, 6-8, 25-27, 35 (to :)

1Now when Jacob saw that there was corn in Egypt, Jacob said unto his sons, Why do ye look one upon another?

2And he said, Behold, I have heard that there is corn in Egypt: get you down thither, and buy for us from thence; that we may live, and not die.

3And Joseph’s ten brethren went down to buy corn in Egypt.

6And Joseph was the governor over the land, and he it was that sold to all the people of the land: and Joseph’s brethren came, and bowed down themselves before him with their faces to the earth.

7And Joseph saw his brethren, and he knew them, but made himself strange unto them, and spake roughly unto them; and he said unto them, Whence come ye? And they said, From the land of Canaan to buy food.

8And Joseph knew his brethren, but they knew not him.

25Then Joseph commanded to fill their sacks with corn, and to restore every man’s money into his sack, and to give them provision for the way: and thus did he unto them.

26And they laded their asses with the corn, and departed thence.

27And as one of them opened his sack to give his ass provender in the inn, he espied his money; for, behold, it was in his sack’s mouth.

35And it came to pass as they emptied their sacks, that, behold, every man’s bundle of money was in his sack:

  6. Luke 19:1-9

1And Jesus entered and passed through Jericho.

2And, behold, there was a man named Zacchæus, which was the chief among the publicans, and he was rich.

3And he sought to see Jesus who he was; and could not for the press, because he was little of stature.

4And he ran before, and climbed up into a sycomore tree to see him: for he was to pass that way.

5And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchæus, make haste, and come down; for to-day I must abide at thy house.

6And he made haste, and came down, and received him joyfully.

7And when they saw it, they all murmured, saying, That he was gone to be guest with a man that is a sinner.

8And Zacchæus stood, and said unto the Lord; Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold.

9And Jesus said unto him, This day is salvation come to this house, forsomuch as he also is a son of Abraham.

  7. Acts 1:1-8

1The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach,

2Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen:

3To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:

4And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.

5For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

6When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?

7And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.

8But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judæa, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures
by Mary Baker Eddy

  1. SH 308:16-21 (to ;), 28

Jacob was alone, wrestling with error, — struggling with a mortal sense of life, substance, and intelligence 18Wrestling of Jacobas existent in matter with its false pleasures and pains, — when an angel, a message from Truth and Love, appeared to him and smote the sinew, 21or strength, of his error, till he saw its unreality; ... When Jacob was asked, “What is thy name?” he straightway answered; 30and then his name was changed to Israel, for “as a prince” had he prevailed and had “power with God and with men.” Then Jacob questioned his deliverer, “Tell me, 309 309:1I pray thee, thy name;” but this appellation was withheld, for the messenger was not a corporeal being, but a name-3less, incorporeal impartation of divine Love to man, which, to use the word of the Psalmist, restored his Soul, — gave him the spiritual sense of being and rebuked his material 6sense.

  2. SH 390:4

We cannot deny that Life is self-sustained, and we should never deny the everlasting harmony of Soul, sim-6Ultimate harmonyply because, to the mortal senses, there is seem-ing discord. It is our ignorance of God, the divine Principle, which produces apparent discord, and 9the right understanding of Him restores harmony. Truth will at length compel us all to exchange the pleasures and pains of sense for the joys of Soul.

  3. Sh 470:32

The relations of God and man, divine Principle and 471 471:1idea, are indestructible in Science; and Science knows no lapse from nor return to harmony, but holds the divine 3order or spiritual law, in which God and all that He cre-ates are perfect and eternal, to have remained unchanged in its eternal history.

  4. SH 486:14

Jesus proved by the prints of the nails, that his body 15was the same immediately after death as before. If death Death an errorrestores sight, sound, and strength to man, then death is not an enemy but a better friend 18than Life. Alas for the blindness of belief, which makes harmony conditional upon death and matter, and yet supposes Mind unable to produce harmony! So long 21as this error of belief remains, mortals will continue mor-tal in belief and subject to chance and change.

  5. SH 124:25

Spirit is the life, substance, and continuity of all things. We tread on forces. Withdraw them, and 27creation must collapse. Human knowledge calls them forces of matter; but divine Science declares that they belong wholly to divine Mind, are inherent in this 30Mind, and so restores them to their rightful home and classification.

  6. SH 242:9

9    There is but one way to heaven, harmony, and Christ in divine Science shows us this way. It is to know no The one only wayother reality — to have no other conscious-12ness of life — than good, God and His reflec-tion, and to rise superior to the so-called pain and pleasure of the senses.

  7. SH 10:22-31

Experience teaches us that we do not always receive the blessings we ask for in prayer. There is some mis-24Asking amissapprehension of the source and means of all goodness and blessedness, or we should certainly receive that for which we ask. The Scrip -27tures say: “Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.” That which we desire and for which we ask, it is not always 30best for us to receive. In this case infinite Love will not grant the request.

  8. SH 57:22-30

Human affection is not poured forth vainly, even though it meet no return. Love enriches the nature, en-24Help and disciplinelarging, purifying, and elevating it. The wintry blasts of earth may uproot the flowers of affec-tion, and scatter them to the winds; but this severance 27of fleshly ties serves to unite thought more closely to God, for Love supports the struggling heart until it ceases to sigh over the world and begins to unfold its wings for 30heaven.

  9. SH 347:12

12    Critics should consider that the so-called mortal man is not the reality of man. Then they would behold the Essential element of Christianitysigns of Christ’s coming. Christ, as the spir-15itual or true idea of God, comes now as of old, preaching the gospel to the poor, heal-ing the sick, and casting out evils. Is it error which 18is restoring an essential element of Christianity, — namely, apostolic, divine healing? No; it is the Science of Christianity which is restoring it, and is the light 21shining in darkness, which the darkness comprehends not.

  10. SH 36:24

It is useless to suppose that the wicked can gloat over their offences to the last moment and then be suddenly pardoned and pushed into heaven, 27or that the hand of Love is satisfied with giving us only toil, sacrifice, cross-bearing, multiplied trials, and mock-ery of our motives in return for our efforts at well doing.
