Topic: We can make our decisions rightly

The Bible:

(1)   Ps 31:1,3,5 (to :),15 (to :),24

1  In thee, O Lord, do I put my trust; let me never be ashamed: deliver me in thy righteousness.

3  For thou art my rock and my fortress; therefore for thy name's sake lead me, and guide me.

5  Into thine hand I commit my spirit:

15  My times are in thy hand:

24  Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the Lord.

(2)   I Sam 8:4-7,10,11 (to :),15 he,17,19,20,22 (to .)

4  Then all the elders of Israel gathered themselves together, and came to Samuel unto Ramah,

5  And said unto him, Behold, thou art old, and thy sons walk not in thy ways: now make us a king to judge us like all the nations.

6  ¶ But the thing displeased Samuel, when they said, Give us a king to judge us.  And Samuel prayed unto the Lord.

7  And the Lord said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them.

10  ¶ And Samuel told all the words of the Lord unto the people that asked of him a king.

11  And he said, This will be the manner of the king that shall reign over you:

15  he will take the tenth of your seed, and of your vineyards, and give to his officers, and to his servants.

17  He will take the tenth of your sheep: and ye shall be his servants.

19  ¶ Nevertheless the people refused to obey the voice of Samuel; and they said, Nay; but we will have a king over us;

20  That we also may be like all the nations; and that our king may judge us, and go out before us, and fight our battles.

22  And the Lord said to Samuel, Hearken unto their voice, and make them a king.

(3)   I Sam 9:27

27  And as they were going down to the end of the city, Samuel said to Saul, Bid the servant pass on before us, (and he passed on,) but stand thou still a while, that I may shew thee the word of God.

(4)   I Sam 10:1

1  Then Samuel took a vial of oil, and poured it upon his head, and kissed him, and said, Is it not because the Lord hath anointed thee to be captain over his inheritance?

(5)   I Sam 15:10,11 (to .),13 (to :),17,24 (to :),26,35 (to :)

10  ¶ Then came the word of the Lord unto Samuel, saying,

11  It repenteth me that I have set up Saul to be king: for he is turned back from following me, and hath not performed my commandments.

13  And Samuel came to Saul:

17  And Samuel said, When thou wast little in thine own sight, wast thou not made the head of the tribes of Israel, and the Lord anointed thee king over Israel?

24  ¶ And Saul said unto Samuel, I have sinned:

26  And Samuel said unto Saul, I will not return with thee: for thou hast rejected the word of the Lord, and the Lord hath rejected thee from being king over Israel.

35  And Samuel came no more to see Saul until the day of his death:

(6)   I Sam 16:1,11,12 (to .),12 And the,13 (to .)

1  And the Lord said unto Samuel, How long wilt thou mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? fill thine horn with oil, and go, I will send thee to Jesse the Beth-lehemite: for I have provided me a king among his sons.

11  And Samuel said unto Jesse, Are here all thy children?  And he said, There remaineth yet the youngest, and, behold, he keepeth the sheep. And Samuel said unto Jesse, Send and fetch him: for we will not sit down till he come hither.

12  And he sent, and brought him in.

12  And the Lord said, Arise, anoint him: for this is he.

13  Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward.

(7)   I Sam 18:5 (to :)

5  ¶ And David went out whithersoever Saul sent him, and behaved himself wisely:

(8)   Matt 4:17-20,24

17  ¶ From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

18  ¶ And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers.

19  And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.

20  And they straightway left their nets, and followed him.

24  And his fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatic, and those that had the palsy; and he healed them.

(9)   Matt 9:20-22

20  ¶ And, behold, a woman, which was diseased with an issue of blood twelve years, came behind him, and touched the hem of his garment:

21  For she said within herself, If I may but touch his garment, I shall be whole.

22  But Jesus turned him about, and when he saw her, he said, Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole.  And the woman was made whole from that hour.

(10)   Acts 11:2-4,16

2  And when Peter was come up to Jerusalem, they that were of the circumcision contended with him,

3  Saying, Thou wentest in to men uncircumcised, and didst eat with them.

4  But Peter rehearsed the matter from the beginning, and expounded it by order unto them, saying,

16  Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost.

(11)   I Kings 19:19,21 Then

19  ¶ So he departed thence, and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen before him, and he with the twelfth: and Elijah passed by him, and cast his mantle upon him.

21  Then he arose, and went after Elijah, and ministered unto him.

(12)   Prov 3:5,6,10

5  ¶ Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

6  In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

10  So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.

Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures

by Mary Baker Eddy

(1)   vii:1-2,13-17 Truth

1        To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is

       big with blessings.

                                                       Truth, independent

of doctrines and time-honored systems, knocks at the

15   portal of humanity. Contentment with the past and

the cold conventionality of materialism are crumbling

       away.

(2)   467:13

                                                    Having no other gods,

turning to no other but the one perfect Mind to guide

15   him, man is the likeness of God, pure and eternal, hav-

ing that Mind which was also in Christ.

(3)   304:26

                                               Left to the decisions

27   of material sense, music is liable to be misappre-

hended and lost in confusion. Controlled by belief,

instead of understanding, music is, must be, imper-

30   fectly expressed. So man, not understanding the Sci-

ence of being, — thrusting aside his divine Principle as

incomprehensible, — is abandoned to conjectures, left in

1    the hands of ignorance, placed at the disposal of illusions,

subjected to material sense which is discord. A discon-

3    tented, discordant mortal is no more a man than discord

       is music.

(4)   463:27-28

27   There is a law of God applicable to healing, and it is a

       spiritual law instead of material.

(5)   451:19

Every Christian Scientist, every conscientious teacher

of the Science of Mind-healing, knows that human will

21   is not Christian Science, and he must recog-                        Obligations

nize this in order to defend himself from the                       of teachers

influence of human will. He feels morally obligated to

24   open the eyes of his students that they may perceive the

nature and methods of error of every sort, especially any

subtle degree of evil, deceived and deceiving. All mental

27   malpractice arises from ignorance or malice aforethought.

It is the injurious action of one mortal mind controlling

another from wrong motives, and it is practised either

30   with a mistaken or a wicked purpose.

(6)   121:22-32

                                              Science shows appearances often

to be erroneous, and corrects these errors by the simple

24   rule that the greater controls the lesser. The sun is the

central stillness, so far as our solar system is concerned,

and the earth revolves about the sun once a year, besides

27   turning daily on its own axis.

As thus indicated, astronomical order imitates the

action of divine Principle; and the universe, the reflec-

30   tion of God, is thus brought nearer the spiritual fact, and

is allied to divine Science as displayed in the everlasting

       government of the universe.

(7)   392:17

                                                            If you think that con-

18   sumption is hereditary in your family, you are liable to

the development of that thought in the form of what is

termed pulmonary disease, unless Science shows you

21   otherwise. If you decide that climate or atmosphere is

unhealthy, it will be so to you. Your decisions will mas-

ter you, whichever direction they take.

(8)   368:2

                                                                                    The

3    confidence inspired by Science lies in the fact                    Real and

that Truth is real and error is unreal. Error                           counterfeit

is a coward before Truth. Divine Science insists that

6    time will prove all this. Both truth and error have come

nearer than ever before to the apprehension of mortals,

and truth will become still clearer as error is self-

 9    destroyed.

(9)   195:11-16

The point for each one to decide is, whether it is mortal

12   mind or immortal Mind that is causative. We                      Useful

should forsake the basis of matter for meta-                        knowledge

physical Science and its divine Principle.

15       Whatever furnishes the semblance of an idea governed

by its Principle, furnishes food for thought.

(10)   60:12

12       From the logic of events we learn that selfishness

and impurity alone are fleeting, and that wisdom will

ultimately put asunder what she hath not joined

15   together.

(11)   206:19-31

Does God send sickness, giving the mother her child

for the brief space of a few years and then taking it away

21   by death? Is God creating anew what He                            Birth and

has already created? The Scriptures are defi-                       death unreal

nite on this point, declaring that His work was finished,

24   nothing is new to God, and that it was good.

Can there be any birth or death for man, the spiritual

image and likeness of God? Instead of God sending

27   sickness and death, He destroys them, and brings to light

immortality. Omnipotent and infinite Mind made all

and includes all. This Mind does not make mistakes

30   and subsequently correct them. God does not cause man

to sin, to be sick, or to die.

(12)   207:8 (only),9-13

God is not the creator of an evil mind.

9                         We must learn that evil is the awful decep-

tion and unreality of existence. Evil is not                           Subordination

supreme; good is not helpless; nor are the                            of evil

12   so-called laws of matter primary, and the law of Spirit

       secondary.

(13)   566:1

1        As the children of Israel were guided triumphantly

through the Red Sea, the dark ebbing and flowing tides

3    of human fear, — as they were led through the                   Spiritual

wilderness, walking wearily through the great                     guidance

desert of human hopes, and anticipating the promised

6    joy, — so shall the spiritual idea guide all right desires

in their passage from sense to Soul, from a material sense

of existence to the spiritual, up to the glory prepared for

9    them who love God. Stately Science pauses not, but

moves before them, a pillar of cloud by day and of fire

by night, leading to divine heights.

(14)   73:10

                                                               God                              One

controls man, and God is the only Spirit. Any                     government

12   other control or attraction of so-called spirit is a mortal

belief, which ought to be known by its fruit, — the repe-

       tition of evil.

(15)   9:17

Dost thou "love the Lord thy God with all thy

18   heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind"?

This command includes much, even the sur-                        Practical

render of all merely material sensation, affec-                     religion

21   tion, and worship. This is the El Dorado of Christianity.

It involves the Science of Life, and recognizes only the

divine control of Spirit, in which Soul is our master,

24   and material sense and human will have no place.

(16)   379:6

6    The real jurisdiction of the world is in Mind, controlling

every effect and recognizing all causation as vested in

       divine Mind.

(17)   63:5

In Science man is the offspring of Spirit. The beauti-

6    ful, good, and pure constitute his ancestry. His origin is

not, like that of mortals, in brute instinct, nor                      Spiritual

does he pass through material conditions prior                    origin

9    to reaching intelligence. Spirit is his primitive and ulti-

mate source of being; God is his Father, and Life is the

       law of his being.
