Several years ago, when I was working on a paper due for an education course at UCLA, an extension class, I seem to have lost part of my research.  I needed this important paper work in order to complete the required assignment.  I was just starting to transition from type written work on a typewriter to the more efficient way of using a computer.  I called a C.S. practitioner and shared my concern with her.  She declared a simple truth to me that “Mind never forgets.”  This practitioner had supported me before in another similar truth of knowing that “Intelligence is always present and Intelligence, divine intelligence, knows what to do.”  As a child, my mother and I would sing our beloved C.S. hymn, “Shepard Show Me How to Go” by Mary Baker Eddy as we would locate lost articles, such as keys.  We always would rejoice in knowing the truth about the situation and were deeply grateful to find the lost item and be on our way.  I remember that I gained my peace by declaring these healing truths and soon afterwards I located the necessary paper work and was able to complete the education assignment on time.  I am so grateful for the spiritual lessons we learn each time we are persistent in trusting divine Mind’s unfoldment of good for his idea, man. 

This healing served as an important reminder to me more recently when I worked on completing other needed coursework necessary for an education certificate at CSUN.  I was able to do all of my paperwork on the computer and was able to demonstrate more of the divine Mind in the completion of many required assignments.  Even as I worked as a team member in a group, I declared that the one Mind governed all.  Mrs. Eddy shares with us in Science and Health, “The term Science, properly understood, refers only to the laws of God and to His government of the universe, inclusive of man.  From this it follows that business men and cultured scholars have found that Christian Science enhances their endurance and mental powers, enlarges their perception of character, gives them acuteness and comprehensiveness and an ability to exceed their ordinary capacity.” (Science and Health 128: 4) I am truly grateful for Christian Science.

In the spring of 2010 I suffered a back injury when using a jackhammer to remove a cement footing. As I held to the fact that my true spiritual identity could not be affected in any way, I realized that the pride I was manifesting during the activity was the only thing that could be injured and destroyed. With a new-found humility, I affirmed the honest, dutiful motives which gave breath to the activity and held to my innocent, modest, and immutable expression. This realization was the healing and the physical adjustment soon followed.

In the fall of 2010, I fainted after getting up in the middle of the night. I was experiencing a physical problem, but I knew that there was a mental conflict going on within me that needed resolution.  I was led to a passage in Miscellaneous Writings (p. 353) which describes the folly of “tending the regulator,” a mechanical device which synchronizes machinery. It was a metaphor used by Mrs. Eddy to describe the human tendency to manipulate human circumstances:

Instead of relying on the Principle of all that really
exists, — to govern His own creation, — self-conceit, igno-
rance, and pride would regulate God's action. Expe-
rience shows that humility is the first step in Christian
Science, wherein all is controlled, not by man or laws
material, but by wisdom, Truth, and Love. (Mis. 354)

During the ensuing months I had to learn many lessons through humility while gaining a deeper understanding that Mind governed and had always governed every function of my spiritual being, my only selfhood. My health gradually returned to normal.
