READING ROOM
The Reading Room is our outlet for publications of The Christian Science Publishing Society. Besides a display and sales room, the Reading Room houses a reference library, a lending library, and a study room where the public is welcome to read, browse, study, or pray. It is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., except for public holidays. It is also open for about a half-hour after each Sunday service.
Periodicals available at the Reading Room include:
- The Christian Science Monitor, an international daily newspaper
- The Christian Science Journal, published monthly
- Christian Science Sentinel, published weekly
- Christian Science Quarterly, containing the Bible Lessons read at Christian Science churches worldwide, and sold as both a quarterly publication of citations, and a monthly full-text edition. You can also find the Lesson-Sermon on line in electronic form, including the eBibleLessson and a special edition for young people called My Bible Lesson
Books available to purchase, borrow, or study in the Reading Room include Bibles, concordances to the Bible, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, the discoverer and founder of Christian Science, and other writings by Mrs. Eddy. There are also other books related to Christian Science and the church. There are CDs and cassette tapes of books by Mrs. Eddy, inspirational readings, hymns, and testimonies from people healed through Christian Science. And there are special items for children.
The study room contains many reference works, such as Bibles and Bible dictionaries. Of particular interest is a full set of all issues of The Christian Science Journal and the Christian Science Sentinel dating from their very first editions in the late nineteenth century.
We have a computer room with a high-speed DSL connection to the internet, available for accessing the various web sites related to Christian Science. (See the Links page for some of these.) This includes the ability to listen to the previous Sunday's service from The Mother Church.
Used literature: Are you wondering what to do with your gently used Christian Science Sentinels and Journals? Please donate them to our Reading Room. The attendants remove the address labels and staples and provide them for distribution in county jails.
